Strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran enters into force
The comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran has officially come into force, marking a significant step in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The agreement reflects the decision of the highest political leadership in both Moscow and Tehran to further strengthen friendly and good-neighbourly ties, according to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cited by Caliber.Az.
The agreement, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President M. Pezeshkian in Moscow on January 17, 2025, establishes a long-term framework for cooperation across all priority areas of bilateral engagement.
It underscores a commitment to close coordination on the international stage amid the emergence of a multipolar world order, including collaboration within major multilateral organisations, joint efforts to enhance regional stability and security, and collective responses to shared challenges and threats.
The statement emphasised that the agreement represents a strategic choice by the top leadership of both countries to advance a comprehensive strengthening of friendly relations, reflecting the fundamental interests of the peoples of Russia and Iran.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the pact elevates Russian-Iranian relations to a qualitatively new level, defining clear guidelines for sustained cooperation in political, economic, and security spheres.
