Scholarship for female students in Poland named after National Hero Hokuma Aliyeva PHOTOS
The Union of Azerbaijani Female Students in Poland has set up a scholarship program named after National Hero Hokuma Aliyeva, the Azerbaijani Airlines chief flight attendant who fearlessly continued to calm passengers' nerves while on board of the fateful 8243 Baku-Grozny flight.
The program initiative aims to support the academic and social development of Azerbaijani women pursuing higher education in Poland and is being supported by the Council of Azerbaijanis in Poland, Caliber.Az reports citing AZERTAG.
Female students studying in Poland will be eligible to apply for the scholarship if they have successfully completed at least one semester and managed to earn a high academic performance, as well as those who are actively contributing to the academic social life and participate in various public projects.
As Caliber.Az recalls, the tragic plane crash of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8432 occured near the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25 to where the pilots had re-routed attempting an emergency landing. Despite sustaining critical damage to the plane's exterior, with all physical and circumstancial evidence pointing to a Russian surface-to-air missile strike (investion still pending), the flight's 3 crew members and 2 pilots displayed exceptional airmanship, saving the lives of 29 out of the 62 passengers. Tragically, chief flight attendant Hokuma Aliyeva as well as the two pilots, Captain Igor Kshnyakin and First Officer Aleksandr Kalyaninov, died in the tragedy.
