Swedish envoy: Digital technologies create new opportunities for women

Swedish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Tobias Lorentzson has said that digital technologies open up new paths and create new opportunities for women.

He made the remerks on March 6 at a conference on "DigitAll: Gender Equality in Innovation and Digitalization", Report informs.

According to him, this conference is very important for supporting women, because due to gender inequality, women cannot fully use their potential and realize themselves in the field of digitalization and ICT.

The Ambassador also added that, according to statistics, 58 per cent of women have experienced online harassment.

“Promoting gender equality is an important activity of the Swedish government. The Swedish government and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation have also joined forces to fight inequality in innovation and technology,” he said.

In conclusion, Lorentzson stressed the importance of the commitment of the countries to the Istanbul Convention on Combating Violence Against Women.
