Syria requests Türkiye’s support in counterterrorism efforts, including fight against ISIS
The new Syrian authorities have formally requested assistance from Türkiye in bolstering their defence capabilities and combating terrorism, including threats posed by the Islamic State (ISIS).
The Turkish Ministry of Defence stated that the Syrian administration had officially requested Türkiye’s assistance in strengthening its defence capabilities and combating terrorist organisations, particularly those led by the Islamic State, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
The ministry added that efforts to enhance Syria’s defence infrastructure were ongoing.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Syria in its fight against terrorism.
“We will never allow our neighbour and brother Syria, which is looking to its future with hope for the first time after years of oppression and conflict, to be dragged into a new environment of instability by front terrorist organisations,” Erdogan stated.
The Turkish leader further underlined that Ankara would continue to back the Syrian government in its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and cooperation in addressing security threats.
