US aircraft carrier enters CENTCOM area in Middle East Amid Iran tensions
The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has entered the area of responsibility of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) in the Middle East, a senior U.S. official told Fox News.
The carrier’s deployment comes amid rising tensions and a potential threat from Iran. However, the source clarified that the ship is not currently ready to carry out strikes against the Islamic Republic.
President Trump has publicly discussed the possibility of military operations against Iran, including airstrikes, in response to Tehran’s harsh suppression of widespread protests and its broader regional behaviour. U.S. officials have said various military options remain under consideration as part of national security discussions.
Later, Trump announced that a significant U.S. “armada” of warships, including the USS Abraham Lincoln, is being directed toward the Persian Gulf region “just in case” military action becomes necessary, although he expressed hope that force might not be used.
