Taiwan, US to collaborate to address global challenges
President of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen has said that her country and the United States will work together to address various global challenges in the future as she met with a group of visiting US officials.
During the meeting, she noted that the arrival of US officials demonstrates not only Washington's support but also the strong partnership between Taiwan and the United States, Gazeta.ru reports.
Tsai Ing-wen expressed confidence that with the development of relations, Taiwan and the US will expand cooperation in the fields of ecology, scientific and technological development and education.
"In the future, just as we jointly fought the pandemic, Taiwan and the US will work together to tackle various global challenges," she said.
The president added that she expects Taiwan-US relations to become an important driving force for regional and global development.
Prior to that, the US-based The Wall Street Journal wrote that the result of the election in Taiwan, where Lai Qingde, a supporter of the island's independence, won, represents a "puzzle" for Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and the probable continuation of pressure on Taiwan from China could jeopardize the calm in US-China relations.
