TANAP reaches 77.6 billion cubic meters in gas deliveries to Türkiye, Europe

04 April 2025 21:26

Since the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) began its commercial operations, a total of 77.6 billion cubic meters of gas have been delivered to both Türkiye and Europe.

Saltuk Düzyol, CEO of TANAP Natural Gas Transmission Co., shared this milestone during the recent ministerial meetings in Baku, which were part of the Advisory Councils on the Southern Gas Corridor and Green Energy initiatives, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Düzyol highlighted the significance of TANAP, describing it as a crucial element of the Southern Gas Corridor—the longest (3,500 km) and widest segment in the pipeline system.

“Since the commercial launch on June 30, 2018, TANAP has been operating reliably and securely,” said Düzyol.

He further explained that the pilot operation began in June 2020, with annual delivery volumes reaching 5.7 billion cubic meters. As of now, Türkiye has received 32.2 billion cubic meters of gas, including 6 billion cubic meters delivered according to flexible schedules and nominations.

Additionally, Düzyol confirmed that commercial gas deliveries to Europe officially began on December 31, 2020, with the opening of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

"The pilot phase of exports to Europe kicked off on January 1, 2022," Düzyol continued. "Since then, 10.5 billion cubic meters of gas have been delivered annually via TAP, bringing the total volume of supplies to Europe to 45.38 billion cubic meters. This includes 4.4 billion cubic meters delivered under flexible schedules and nominations."

The Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) is a critical component of the Southern Gas Corridor, a major energy infrastructure project designed to transport natural gas from the Caspian Sea region, specifically Azerbaijan, to Türkiye and Europe. The pipeline spans 1,850 kilometers, running through Türkiye from the Georgian border to the Turkish-Greek border. TANAP is designed to carry natural gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas field in the Caspian Sea to Europe, reducing dependence on Russian gas and enhancing energy security for Türkiye and the EU.
