Tehran says negotiations with Israel now "pointless" after military escalation
Iran has strongly dismissed the prospect of negotiations with Israel, calling such discussions “pointless” in the wake of what it described as unjustified military aggression by the Israeli government.
Speaking at a press briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei accused Israel of derailing diplomatic efforts and criticised the United States for what he called a contradictory and complicit stance, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“We must look at the realities on the ground. We were actively engaged in negotiations, and suddenly we were caught off guard by Israel’s military aggression,” Baghaei said. “We could not have imagined they would take such actions with U.S. support.”
He described Israel as a “Zionist entity” that has “undermined diplomacy” and insisted that Washington must adopt a firm and clear position. “The contradictory stance taken by the U.S. in the face of this aggression is of no help,” he added.
Baghaei went further, asserting that Iran sees no ambiguity about the role of American officials. “We have no doubt that the U.S. administration and American officials are complicit in this aggression,” he said. “Raising the issue of negotiations now is pointless.”
Calling on the international community to act, Baghaei urged the United Nations Security Council to take a definitive stand. “The Security Council must make it clear that this is illegal and unjustified aggression,” he concluded.
