Trade boom propels Britain into Azerbaijan’s top two partners
The United Kingdom has risen to become Azerbaijan’s second-largest trading partner after bilateral trade surged significantly during the first four months of 2026.
Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and the UK reached $3.559 billion in January–April 2026, representing a 7.4-fold increase compared with the same period last year, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
The UK accounted for 20.45 percent of Azerbaijan’s total foreign trade turnover during the reporting period, securing second place among the country’s largest trading partners.
The sharp increase was driven primarily by a substantial rise in Azerbaijani exports to the British market. According to the statistics, exports to the United Kingdom climbed 24.9 times year-on-year to $3.470 billion.
As a result, the UK’s share in Azerbaijan’s total exports rose to 29.21 percent, compared with just 1.59 percent in January–April 2025.
Meanwhile, imports from the United Kingdom moved in the opposite direction. Azerbaijani imports of British goods declined 3.8 times to $89.64 million during the reporting period.
The share of imports from the UK in Azerbaijan’s total imports stood at 1.62 percent, down from 4.21 percent recorded during the same period a year earlier.
