TRIPP route: Azerbaijan builds railway bridge to Armenia, Türkiye PHOTO / VIDEO

12 August 2026 10:31

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) is continuing construction of a new railway line in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, with the project set to connect to the TRIPP route at the Armenian border, ADY said.

According to Caliber.Az, the 194.1-kilometre railway will see 10 stations reconstructed and 814 engineering structures built, including 29 bridges, four tunnels, three platforms, 11 overpasses and 12 galleries.

The first phase of design and construction works, which began late last year, covers the Salammalik, Ordubad, Aza and Julfa stations.

Construction is currently under way along a seven-kilometre section between the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and Ordubad.

Earthworks have been completed on six kilometres, while new sleepers have been installed along a 700-metre section starting from Salammalik station.

Once completed, the railway is expected to have an annual freight capacity of 15 million tonnes.

The line will connect with the Zangezur Corridor, providing a direct land link between mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan, as well as access to the Turkish, Armenian and European markets.

ADY said the railway will also form an important segment of the Middle Corridor and connect with the TRIPP route at the Armenian border in Ordubad.
