Turkic states agree to simplify customs rules to boost Middle Corridor trade

08 September 2025 16:03

Customs authorities from member states of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) have signed a series of agreements aimed at easing border procedures and enhancing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor transport route.

At the organisation’s 11th meeting, officials signed two Memorandums of Understanding on risk management and customs laboratories, along with a joint statement on implementing Annexe 11 of the 1975 Geneva Convention, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The talks focused on measures to simplify customs procedures, accelerate border crossings and promote digitalisation.

Among the priorities discussed were the wider use of the e-TIR system, the rollout of “Single Window” and One-Stop Shop mechanisms, and the deployment of technologies such as electronic seals and cargo tracking systems.

Delegates also stressed the importance of developing and harmonising Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programmes, which help streamline trade and facilitate cross-border transport across the region.

The member states agreed to fast-track a pilot project under the Simplified Customs Corridor Agreement, designed to ease border checks, improve transit flows and create more favourable conditions for foreign trade across the OTS area.
