Türkiye detains hundreds in major cybercrime crackdown
Turkish security officials have detained 194 people as part of a large-scale operation against cybercrime, the Interior Ministry has stated.
The operations were carried out across 18 provinces under the coordination of the Cybercrime Department, the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK), and the prosecutor’s office, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
A total of 357 suspects have been detained over the past five days.
According to investigators, the suspects were involved in illegal online betting, social media fraud, phishing websites, unauthorised access to bank and gaming accounts, and the distribution of child sexual abuse material.
They are also accused of organising illegal online gambling operations, facilitating financial transfers for betting platforms, and promoting them.
Of the 357 detainees, 194 were arrested, while 36 were released under judicial control. Investigations into the remaining suspects are ongoing.
