Türkiye expects NATO solidarity in fight against terrorism
President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country expects solidarity from NATO in the fight against terrorism and considers it crucial to strengthen the unity and cohesion of the alliance.
"We present Türkiye's expectations from NATO at every opportunity. It is important to strengthen the unity and cohesion of the alliance and to maintain and enrich the spirit of solidarity within it,” Erdogan said as he commented on the appointment of Mark Rutte as the new NATO Secretary General, Caliber.Az reports per Russian sources.
“In global issues such as counterterrorism, it is necessary to act with consideration for the security and interests of NATO countries. Türkiye has been fighting terrorism for many years. It is regrettable that our allies have left us alone in this fight, contrary to the spirit of NATO unity, and have even taken positions that encourage terrorist organizations," he said, referring to the PKK.
He stated that Türkiye would continue to express its position to the new NATO Secretary General, as well as at the NATO summit to be held from July 9-11 in Washington.
