Türkiye names new ambassador to Azerbaijan following diplomatic changes PHOTO
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has appointed Birol Akgün as Türkiye’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan.
The announcement was made following the publication of a decree in the official legal information portal, Resmi Gazete, per Caliber.Az.
Prior to this appointment, Akgün served as the chairman of the Turkish Educational Foundation Maarif Vakfı.
The presidential decree also includes several other diplomatic appointments. Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Zeki Levent Gümrükçü has been appointed as ambassador to Mozambique, while Ferhat Alkan will serve as ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique.
Additionally, Presidential Chief Advisor Yakup Caymazoglu has been named ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. New ambassadors have also been appointed to Cuba and the UAE.
Cahit Bağçı, who served as Türkiye's ambassador to Azerbaijan since 2021, completed his diplomatic mission on December 14, 2024.
He was recently honoured with a letter of thanks for his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
