Türkiye seizes huge batch of methamphetamine at border with Iran
Turkish border authorities have prevented an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs into the country from Iran.
The operation took place on November 1 at the Gürbulak border checkpoint in Ağrı province, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Turkish Ministry of Trade.
“Yesterday at the Gürbulak customs, 721 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine valued at 2 billion 612 million Turkish lira (approximately $62.2 million) were seized,” the statement said.
The ministry noted that since the beginning of 2025, customs officials have confiscated and destroyed a total of 30 tons of various types of drugs, weighing a total of 100 kilograms, with an estimated value of 40.3 billion Turkish lira (approximately $960.7 million).
This crackdown follows another major border operation on October 18 in which Turkish Customs Enforcement authorities seized a total of 1,326 kilograms of cannabis in a coordinated effort targeting drug trafficking. Authorities recovered 1,153 kilograms of cannabis at the Tekirdağ Customs Office and 173 kilograms at the İpsala Border Gate. The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at around 809 million Turkish lira (approximately $19.4 million).
