Turkmenistan calls for coordinated approach to strengthen Middle Corridor

The competitiveness of the Middle Corridor should be assessed as an integrated transport and logistics system rather than through improvements to individual infrastructure facilities, Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Perhat Yagshiev said.

Speaking at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026), Yagshiev said the route’s development requires a “unified, coordinated, and predictable transport and logistics system," Caliber.Az reports per local media. 

He identified the modernisation of physical infrastructure, including railways, highways, ports and terminals, as a key priority, along with increasing their capacity to handle cargo.

Yagshiev also stressed the need to improve freight transit speeds and predictability.

“To achieve this goal, it is necessary to continue harmonising tariff policies, transit schedules, and cargo handling procedures,” he said.

The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, connects China and Central Asia with Europe via the Caspian Sea and the South Caucasus.
