Ukraine wants to switch to Latin alphabet Petition registered on Zelensky's website
A public appeal to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky about the translation of the Ukrainian language from Cyrillic to Latin is registered on the website of the head of state.
The initiator of the petition emphasizes that the rejection of the Cyrillic alphabet "will allow to finally break off linguistic ties with Russia." If the appeal gains 25,000 signatures, the head of state will be obliged to give an answer to it. At the moment, 49 people have signed the document, TASS reports.
The idea of switching to the Latin alphabet was put forward in Ukraine before. In particular, Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, stated in an interview that he personally advocated the abandonment of the Cyrillic alphabet. This statement caused a heated discussion among politicians and public figures.
