Marseille rail siege foiled: 700 crowd thwarted by police

French authorities have prevented an attempt by around 700 people to seize control of Marseille’s Saint-Charles railway station, according to police sources cited by Le Figaro.

A significant police presence was deployed around the station, with officers using tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Units of the French Republican Security Companies successfully blocked the group from entering the station, averting what could have been a major public safety incident.
