UN agencies to launch initiative for sustainable housing systems
Rapid urbanisation, climate change and environmental degradation are placing increasing pressure on global housing systems.
This was stated by the Director of Global Solutions at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Rafael Tuts, during an event held within the framework of WUF13 in Baku, as Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
According to the UN official, the housing issue is no longer limited simply to a shortage of living space.
“The housing crisis is not just a lack of homes, but the result of systemic problems. The issue is directly linked to land management, urban planning, infrastructure and community well-being,” Tuts stated.
He added that the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UN-Habitat are launching a new joint initiative on sustainable housing systems, which will help cities reduce risks and support long-term transformation.
