UN official: Regional cooperation key to solve water problem

Water scarcity is worsening in Azerbaijan as a result of climate change, as well as the fact that more than 70 per cent of Azerbaijan's water resources originate in neighbouring countries.

UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva made the remarks at an international water conference "Promoting partnership and activities for sustainable water resources management", Report informs.

She noted that regional cooperation in this area is the key to solving this problem.

Andreeva noted that a huge number of people in the world do not have access to clean drinking water.

The UN Mission will continue to work on projects on climate improvement and water resources management in Azerbaijan, she said.
