UN to host key conference on decolonisation, its global consequences
An international conference titled "Decolonisation: A Quiet Revolution" will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on April 15, focusing on the enduring economic, political, and social impacts of colonialism.
The event is being organised by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), with significant participation from global leaders and key figures in the decolonisation movement, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The conference will feature leaders and members of national resistance movements from overseas territories, representatives from the International Liberation Front, human rights activists, politicians, and experts in decolonisation. Delegates from former French colonies will also be present to share their experience and perspectives. The event aims to address the long-lasting economic, political, and social impacts of colonialism.
A major focus will be on the ongoing efforts of indigenous peoples around the world to gain political and economic independence. The conference will also explore the significant barriers these communities face as they work towards achieving self-determination.
One of the key topics of discussion will be the governance models and institutional mechanisms employed by France, which have been seen as limiting the right of these nations to self-rule. The conference will delve into the impact of these policies on former colonies and the continuing struggle for sovereignty and autonomy.
