UN unveils sustainable energy transition roadmap for Azerbaijan

The official launch of a roadmap for Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) for Azerbaijan took place at the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

The initiative was highlighted in a video address by Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana during the forum, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The document outlines key priorities, including improving energy efficiency, promoting electromobility, and strengthening Azerbaijan’s role as a regional “green energy” hub.

“Central Asia possesses significant renewable energy resources, including solar, wind, and hydropower, and occupies a strategic geographic position at the crossroads of key energy markets.

“In order to accelerate the energy transition in the region, it is necessary to increase investment in renewable energy projects, modernize power grid infrastructure, create a favorable environment for attracting private capital, and expand cross-border electricity exchange. In this context, Azerbaijan is strengthening its position as a regional centre of ‘green energy’,” Alisjahbana emphasized.
