US, Azerbaijan discuss prospects for energy cooperation
Wyatt Toehlke, Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, has held a meeting with representatives from the Azerbaijani oil giant SOCAR to discuss possibilities for cooperation in the energy sector, as announced by the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan.
“U.S. Department of State Senior Advisor Wyatt Toehlke met with representatives from SOCAR to discuss how the United States and Azerbaijan can work together on the future of the energy industry in Azerbaijan. Continuing to build on the strong partnership between our two countries on energy issues will help ensure economic growth and prosperity in the South Caucasus and the United States alike Baku Energy Week,” the embassy said on X on June 4, per Caliber.Az.
Notably, Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is currently hosting the 30th Anniversary of Baku Energy Week, a premier event in the global energy calendar, running from June 2 to 4, 2025. This significant gathering brings together 267 companies from 39 countries, highlighting Azerbaijan's pivotal role in the international energy landscape.
One of the most notable developments announced during the event is a tripartite gas production-sharing agreement involving Turkey's state oil company TPAO, Azerbaijan's SOCAR, and British energy giant BP. The agreement focuses on the development of the Shafag-Asiman offshore block in the Caspian Sea, marking a significant step in regional energy collaboration.
