Bibiheybat is an oil and gas condensate field situated on the Apsheron Peninsula, along the western coast of the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan. Often referred to as “the Land of Fire” due to its ancient natural oil and gas seeps, it is widely regarded as the birthplace of global oil production. In 1846, an oil well in the Bibiheybat field, located in Baku, marked the beginning of industrial oil production in Azerbaijan. By 1899, Azerbaijan had become the world leader in oil production and processing, accounting for half of global oil output that year.
