US officials explore Moscow visit to discuss Ukraine peace proposal
White House envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner are seeking to travel to Moscow to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.
The proposed meeting, which could take place later this month, is not yet finalised, and timing may be affected by unrest in Iran, according to the report. A White House official said that no such meeting is currently scheduled, Caliber.Az cites the report.
If held, the talks are expected to focus on the latest draft of a 20-point peace plan aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The discussions would reportedly cover security guarantees from the United States and European partners, as well as Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.
The potential Moscow visit follows recent comments by US President Donald Trump expressing frustration with Putin over the ongoing war, noting that he initially believed ending the conflict would be straightforward.
Witkoff and Kushner previously visited Moscow in December, engaging in nearly five hours of negotiations with Putin that did not produce a breakthrough. Witkoff has met with the Russian leader multiple times over the past year, including six visits in 2025.
