Uzbekistan unveils advanced armored personnel carrier PHOTO / VIDEO

19 July 2024 19:04

Uzbekistan has announced the development of its own advanced armoured personnel carrier, named the Arslon, which means "Lion" in the Uzbek language.

This new vehicle represents a significant technological leap, positioning itself above the Russian BTR-82 in terms of capabilities and design, Caliber.Az reports citing the Uzbek media.

The Arslon armoured personnel carrier has been developed to NATO standards, featuring an automated combat module capable of engaging targets both day and night. It is equipped with digital fire stabilisation, an optical sighting module, a 30 mm cannon, and a 7.62 mm machine gun. The vehicle can transport eight infantry soldiers and a crew of three, providing a robust and versatile platform for various military operations.

Arslon’s automated combat module allows for precision targeting in all lighting conditions.

Monitors in the cockpit display real-time images from exterior cameras, enhancing situational awareness for the crew.

The engine is located in the front right, enabling a rear troop compartment with a passage to the driver’s cabin.

The driver's cabin features monitors that provide critical information and external camera feeds.

Arslon meets NATO's Standardisation Agreement (STANAG) for armour:

Capable of withstanding 30 mm automatic cannon fire.

Resistant to 14.5 mm machine gun rounds.

The vehicle boasts a mine protection level of 4a/4b, capable of withstanding blasts equivalent to 10 kilograms of TNT.

Depending on the configuration, the Arslon weighs between 32 and 35 tons.

The introduction of the Arslon marks a significant milestone in Uzbekistan's defence capabilities. The armoured personnel carrier is currently undergoing testing and is expected to enter service soon. This development reflects Uzbekistan’s commitment to enhancing its military technology and self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

By adhering to NATO standards, Uzbekistan demonstrates its ability to produce military hardware that meets international benchmarks. This move not only strengthens the nation's defence but also potentially positions Uzbekistan as a player in the global defence market.

As Arslon prepares to enter service, it promises to provide the Uzbek military with a formidable and reliable vehicle, enhancing operational effectiveness and troop safety in diverse combat scenarios.
