War criminal Ohanyan could lose parliamentary immunity over embezzlement case
One of the issued petitions, which call for the lift of parliamentary immunity of the leader of the Armenian political party "Armenia Alliance", war criminal Seyran Ohanyan, is connected to the case for which the former Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan is accused of.
According to Caliber.Az, the Yerevan newspaper "Graparak" reported on this, stating that another MP of the political party, Agnes Hamoyan, which has been formed by former President Robert Kocharyan, said that Ohanyan cannot get acquainted with the materials of the case against him. On the issue of depriving Ohanyan of his parliamentary immunity, three petitions were submitted, one of them disclosed as confidential.
The publication recalls, that on January 20, the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Anna Vardapetyan, submitted three applications to the Speaker of the Parliament, Alan Simonyan to accept the case against Seyran Ohanyan. According to the first request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Ohanyan, as well as the defence minister, committed embezzlement of a particularly large scale (two episodes of the case), as well as, based on personal and group interests, acted against the interests of the officials, which inadvertently caused serious consequences.
On the second and third motions, Ohanyan failed to perform his duties, which inadvertently led to serious consequences, and also, through embezzlement, has gained property in particularly large amounts.
