War criminal Ohanyan faces confiscation of property
The head of the "Armenia" parliamentary faction, war criminal Seyran Ohanyan, claims that the real estate, the possession of which is attributed to him by the Prosecutor General's Office, has nothing to do with him.
He made the statement at the court session on the case of illegal property of the former Defence Minister at the Anti-Corruption Court, Caliber.Az reports quoting Armenian media.
"I did not enrich myself unlawfully, and the property attributed to me by the prosecutor's office does not belong to me," Ohanyan said.
Referring to the law on confiscation of illegally obtained property, prosecutor Gevorg Kocharyan provided a list of items that must be confiscated from Seyran Ohanyan in favor of the state. It refers to two Lexus cars, two real estates in the centre of Yerevan, a villa in the Vahaqni quarter, a summer house on the shore of Sevan, etc., owned by Seyran Ohanyan, his spouse Ruzanna Khachatryan and people affiliated with them. If it is not possible, the prosecutor's office proposes to recover the average market value of the listed property, the funds gained from their sale and seized by the ex-minister.
"The claim about 'illegal seizure' is unacceptable to me. Was I allowed to "seize illegally" like this? I object to this and propose that the original motion be reconsidered - to re-examine the claim... There are new and unacceptable things for me here," Ohanyan said.
The court hearing was postponed. The next one will be held on March 9 at 10:00 am.
To remind, on January 20, Armenia's Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan submitted three motions to the Speaker of the Parliament Alain Simonyan for consenting to file a lawsuit against Ohanyan, the head of Kocharyan's "Armenia" faction.
