Yerevan: Police clash with residents over altercation with German embassy employees Injuries reported
A confrontation between police officers and Armenian citizens escalated into violence following a dispute with employees of the German Embassy in Yerevan.
The incident left three individuals injured, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The altercation reportedly began when 62-year-old E.G. and two other residents of Yerevan, aged 60 and 48, became involved in a disagreement with embassy staff over alleged queue violations. One of the victims claimed the embassy staff showed disrespect during the dispute, prompting the staff to summon police to the scene.
Upon arrival, patrol-post service officers allegedly used force against the residents, handcuffing them and transporting them to the police station. E.G., who sustained injuries during the incident, was hospitalized, while the other two individuals received medical attention for their injuries.
The incident has sparked criticism of law enforcement's handling of the situation, raising questions about the use of force and the treatment of citizens in disputes involving foreign diplomatic missions.
Local authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
