Presidential aide: Armenians want to annex not only Karabakh, but also Nakhchivan
Assistant to the President - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev has said that Armenians wanted to annex not only Karabakh, but also Nakhchivan to Armenia.
Hajiyev made the remarks at the conference "National leader Heydar Aliyev and Azerbaijan's foreign policy" at ADA University on July 10, Report informs.
"The cadres, who at one time received higher education on the initiative of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, are still contributing to the development of statehood," he said.
Hajiyev noted that in 1987-1990, pressure was put on the national leader: “Studying the documents of that time, it becomes clear that a deliberate policy was being pursued to physically destroy Heydar Aliyev. But these intentions did not come true”.
The aide said that historians in their studies sometimes emphasize that the Armenians represent only Karabakh as their territory.
“However, in their studies, historians should take into account that the Armenians wanted to annex not only Karabakh, but also Nakhchivan to Armenia, and present the territory as Eastern Armenia. With the arrival of the great leader Heydar Aliyev in Nakhchivan, these dreams of theirs did not come true. Heydar Aliyev saved Nakhchivan from the fate of Karabakh.
Until 1993, Azerbaijan could not be considered fully independent. Only in 1993, after the return to power of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, our country became completely independent. I am proud that it was in accordance with the national personnel policy of the great leader that I also worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Hajiyev stressed.
