Hungary says opposition forcing Ukraine's admission to EU

State Secretary of the Hungarian government Csaba Demeter has said that the Hungarian opposition along with Brussels is trying to put pressure on the authorities to accept Ukraine into the EU.

"A kind of Black Friday action was started by all foreign-funded activist groups and left-wing politicians, obviously they want to prevent any dialogue about Ukraine's admission to the EU," Demeter explained, the politician stated this on air on Radio Kossuth.

The secretary of state recalled a recent publication by the Financial Times, according to which Ukraine's membership in the EU will cost the current members of the association €186 billion over seven years.

At the same time, the countries that currently receive subsidies from the EU would become donors themselves, which would cause significant damage to their economies.

Demeter emphasized that attacks on the dialogue on Ukraine's admission to the EU would not shake Hungary's position on this issue.

According to him, the country's authorities intend to insist on the right of every Hungarian to speak out on this issue.
