EU needs not Armenia but mainly to oust Russia and Iran – pundit

Armenian political analyst Suren Surenyants has said that the European Union (EU) does not need Armenia, the main thing is to oust Russia and Iran.

"The weight of the European Parliament's resolution or decisions should not be overestimated. They are of a recommendatory nature and are not binding. As a rule, we see that these recommendations in general do not become the basis for the policy of the EU executive bodies," Surenyants said in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.

"However, in general, it should be noted that European parliamentarians are actively working with Armenia, while Western governments are collaborating with Azerbaijan, they sign concrete documents and conclude concrete agreements. This is a case where, unfortunately, it should be noted that the mentality of the Armenian people has been well understood in Europe as well. They have also realized that in many cases we think with our ears and say what we like to hear.

But I agree with you on two points: first, the European Parliament resolution mentioning that the Armenian-Turkish border may also be monitored by European observers is an important emphasis. That is, it is clear that the main problem of the European Union is not so much Armenia, but ousting Russia and Iran from the region," the political scientist said.
