Global NGOs rally behind Azerbaijan for COP29 hosting
A coalition of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from 30 countries has come together to voice their support for Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29, marking a significant endorsement of the country's commitment to global climate action.
Led by the Afrihealth Optonet Association (AHOA), representing 2,300 NGOs from 106 countries, the statement of support was issued with the aim of bolstering Azerbaijan's role in combating climate change. Uzodinma Adirieje, the head of AHOA, emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the pressing challenges posed by climate change.
The statement, as reported by Caliber.Az, garnered the backing of 107 NGOs specializing in health, environment, and climate change from diverse corners of the globe. In expressing their solidarity with Azerbaijan, these organizations underscored the pivotal role of COP29 in advancing global efforts to mitigate climate change.
In the document, AHOA warmly welcomed Azerbaijan's dedication to environmental stewardship and urged the international community to seize the historic opportunity presented by COP29 to accelerate climate action. The statement hailed Azerbaijan's rich cultural heritage and diverse natural landscapes, recognizing the country as a custodian of invaluable environmental resources.
"We believe that Azerbaijan, with its rich cultural heritage and diverse natural landscapes, is not only a custodian of irreplaceable environmental resources, but also an active advocate for climate change and environmental protection," the document highlighted.
The show of support from NGOs across 30 countries underscores the broad-based recognition of Azerbaijan's leadership and commitment to addressing the global climate crisis.
