Azerbaijani, Tajik FMs hail broad potential for further cooperation

12 April 2024 17:42

During the working visit to the Republic of Belarus, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin on April 12.

The sides emphasised during the meeting that historical, cultural and religious ties between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan are the basis of friendly relations between the two countries, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

The ministers said that there is broad potential for further intensification of cooperation.

Bayramov noted the importance of developing cooperation within international and regional organisations, as well as holding bilateral political consultations.

Moreover, the sides stressed the importance of the activity of the joint intergovernmental commission between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan from the point of view of the development of economic relations.

There is great potential for expanding ties in such sectors as trade, industry, agriculture, investment process, ICT, tourism, transport, etc.

Bayramov informed his colleague about the preparation for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), and noted the opportunities for cooperation within COP29.

To recap, Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.

Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.

Moreover, Baku and Yerevan agreed to support each other at some international venues. In a joint statement, Armenia said it would support Azerbaijan's bid to host the COP29 summit.

The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
