Azerbaijani FM holds talks with Senegalese, Moroccan counterparts on UNGA sidelines

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held separate meetings with his Senegalese and Moroccan counterparts on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA81), discussing bilateral relations and opportunities to expand cooperation.

According to posts by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on X, Bayramov met with Senegal’s Minister for African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad Cheikh Niang to discuss the Azerbaijan-Senegal bilateral agenda and prospects for further deepening cooperation.

The sides explored ways to strengthen political dialogue and intensify reciprocal visits. They also discussed expanding the structural framework of economic ties, as well as cooperation in digital governance and innovation.

The ministers welcomed the longstanding cooperation and mutual support between Azerbaijan and Senegal within the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement, and expressed interest in further strengthening engagement across multilateral platforms.

Following the meeting, Bayramov and Niang signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Azerbaijani and Senegalese foreign ministries.

According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the document is intended to facilitate regular dialogue and strengthen the political framework of bilateral relations.

During his meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, Bayramov reviewed the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan-Morocco relations.

The sides highlighted high-level political consultations, interparliamentary ties and institutional coordination between the two countries’ foreign ministries.

The discussions also covered coordination within international organisations and frameworks, including the UN, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Bayramov and Bourita further discussed advancing strategic dialogue with African countries and expanding people-to-people and educational exchanges between Azerbaijan and Morocco.
