Azerbaijan, Bangladesh may abolish visa requirements for ordinary passport holders

Azerbaijan and Bangladesh could eventually abolish visa requirements for holders of ordinary passports, Bangladesh’s non-resident Ambassador to Azerbaijan Amanul Haq told Report.

Haq said relations between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh had reached a new level, pointing to a recent agreement between the two countries on visa exemptions for diplomatic, official and service passport holders.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Bangladeshi counterpart Khalilur Rahman signed the intergovernmental agreement, titled “On the Waiver of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Official, and Service Passports,” on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“This is an important and concrete step taken to further strengthen relations between the two countries,” Haq said.

The ambassador said the initial plan was to simplify the visa regime for diplomatic and service passport holders from both countries. After evaluating the results of implementing the mechanism, he said, the two sides could consider taking a similar step for ordinary passport holders.

Haq added that the next step was expected to involve the mutual opening of diplomatic missions by Azerbaijan and Bangladesh.

“This demonstrates the intention of Azerbaijan and Bangladesh to continue developing their relations and expanding diplomatic contacts,” he said.
