Azerbaijan highlights green energy initiatives at OSCE High-Level Conference on Climate Change
POLITICS 24 June 2024 - 09:12
Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev has participated in the OSCE Maltese Chairmanship's High-Level Conference on Climate Change.
The conference discussed the impact of climate change on security in the OSCE region, the current situation and opportunities to jointly combat climate change, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Foreign Ministry.
Addressing the conference, Rzayev said Azerbaijan has also been affected by climate change. It was noted that Azerbaijan supports the decision of the OSCE Ministerial Council adopted in Stockholm in 2021 on strengthening cooperation in combating challenges caused by climate change, our country actively participates in several regional projects of the OSCE.
It was stated that the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from years of military occupation would be transformed into green energy zones, where the concepts of "smart village" and "smart city" would be applied. This would contribute to efforts to combat climate change.
Noting that the year 2024 has been declared the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" in Azerbaijan, the Deputy Minister said the country will also host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in November this year.
Rzayev also met with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid within the framework of the conference.
