Armenian pundit: Azerbaijan pursues pragmatic policy

    REGION  24 June 2024 - 15:24

Armenian political analyst Artur Khachikyan has said unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan and Türkiye pursue a very pragmatic and balanced policy, so they are doing well.

Azerbaijan speaks from a position of strength and will not stop, as Baku believes that it can still get a lot from Armenia, the expert said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

The absurd actions of the Armenian leadership in the foreign policy arena lead to chaos.

"Armenia's foreign policy is still unclear. It is stated that Armenia wants to break away from Russia, but it does not break away in any way, then it is stated that Armenia goes to the West, but as a result it does not happen either," Khachikyan said on the air of the Fifth TV Channel.

According to him, foreign policy should not be based on children's fairy tales, but on a sober assessment of opportunities and pragmatism. As an example, Khachikyan pointed to Armenia's possible acquisition of French CAESAR artillery units.

"Undoubtedly, this is much more serious equipment than the 20-year-old Bastion units received earlier from France. But the question is how these installations will be delivered to Armenia if even in the case of the useless Bastion there were problems, Armenian cargoes were delayed in the Georgian port for a month by one call from Ankara. Suppose we do manage to bring the installations to Armenia, how will the ammunition for these installations be delivered? We all remember that Georgia closed its border to us during the war. Where are the guarantees that this will not happen in case of a new war? How will these installations be used in such a case," he wondered.

Khachikyan noted that the only country in the region that is interested in Armenia's continued existence is Iran, and it is with it that military-technical cooperation should be increased, but the Armenian leadership does not take this step. Along with this, the Armenian side finally spoilt its relations with Russia, the result of which was the rapprochement between Moscow and Baku. In other words, the country's foreign policy has suffered a complete fiasco, Khachikyan believes.

He noted that the authorities, particularly the country's Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry, give contradictory statements regarding the prospects of achieving peace.

He noted that now the issue of enclaves has come up, but the authorities do not give a clear answer to the question of how this issue will be resolved, where is the limit of concessions, and why after so many concessions the threat of war has not been neutralised.
