Activists target Georgian ex-president with eggs after returning from Munich Security Conference
Georgian ex-President Salome Zourabichvili has been egged at Tbilisi International Airport upon her return to Georgia from the Munich Security Conference.
A group of anonymous activists attacked the ex-president with eggs, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Zourabichvili, like Giorgi Gakharia, was pelted with eggs at Tbilisi airport," the message says. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Earlier, former Georgian Prime Minister and leader of the For Georgia opposition party Giorgi Gakharia, was pelted with eggs at Tbilisi airport as he returned from the Munich Security Conference.
The incident occurred on February 17, early in the morning, as Gakharia was returning home from Germany. A group of youth shouted at Gakharia, calling him "a traitor, an agent, a person without principles!" as they threw eggs. Gakharia's opponents accused the former prime minister of now "begging in Europe" after USAID halted its projects in Georgia. At the conference, Gakharia had met with European politicians, discussing Georgia’s retreat from democracy and its pro-Western course.
