ADA University hosting conference dedicated to English proficiency
Azerbaijan’s ADA University is hosting a conference on "Striving for Perfection in Teaching English".
US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Earle Litzenberger and Director of the Baku-based Institute of Education Rufat Azizov, and Vice-Rector of ADA University Fariz Ismayilzade are taking part in the event, Report informs.
During the event, Litzenberger said that improving English proficiency will help more Azerbaijanis participate in the diversification of their country's economy, be able to communicate with the 1.4 billion English-speaking people in the world, as well as enjoy the original version of Hollywood films, read books and newspapers in the most common language of the Earth.
For his part, Azizov added that the curricula for teaching English in secondary schools in Azerbaijan are being updated. The Institute has studied international experiences to update curricula and textbooks, and new approaches of teaching English will include identifying long-term professional development needs for teachers.
Then the event featured a speech by ADA Vice-Rector Ismayilzade who noted that raising the professional level of teachers is also among the university's activities.
The conference marked the end of the North Carolina State of the Art Modern English Teaching course. About 100 Azerbaijani English teachers completed a virtual course funded by the US Embassy in Azerbaijan.
