15 May 2026 14:49

An Afghan delegation led by Mawlawi Mati-ul-Haq Khalis, head of the country’s National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), has departed for Azerbaijan to participate in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijani media reports, citing information released by the agency.

The delegation is expected to take an active role in the forum’s program, including participation in technical sessions and discussions focused on climate change, urban environmental protection, sustainable development, waste management, the development of “green” cities, air pollution reduction, and strengthening the resilience of urban systems.

During the visit, Afghan representatives are also scheduled to hold meetings with international organizations, donor institutions, and officials from various countries to discuss environmental cooperation, technical assistance, and the implementation of joint projects.

The World Urban Forum (WUF13) will be held in Baku from May 17 to 22. The event is organised in close cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and is intended to facilitate the exchange of international experience in sustainable urban development, “smart cities,” and innovative urban solutions.
