Aghdam, Kars plan twin-city agreement, Azerbaijan's general consul says
The cities of Aghdam in Azerbaijan and Kars in Türkiye are planning to establish twin-city relations, in a move aimed at strengthening regional cooperation between the two countries.
Zamin Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s consul general in Kars, told Report news agency that expanding regional ties remains one of the priority areas of bilateral cooperation.
He noted that twin-city relations have already been established between Erzurum and Shusha, and that Kars and Aghdam are preparing to formalise similar ties. In his view, building partnerships between cities in Azerbaijan and Türkiye makes a significant contribution to broader bilateral relations.
Aliyev added that Turkish cities rank among the leaders in terms of the number of twin-city agreements signed with Azerbaijani municipalities.
He also said that discussions regularly cover the development of trade relations between Kars and Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as well as the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions.
The organisation of business forums and reciprocal visits by business representatives is also frequently on the agenda, he added.
