Airbus Beluga struck by lightning over Wales during flight PHOTO
Residents in the North of Wales got a scare after an exploding sound was heard, the result of an Airbus Beluga being struck by a lightning while flying over the area. Following the incident, outages and power cuts were reported in the area, the Daily Star reported.
The airplane departed Hawarden Airport in Wales and was headed to the German city of Hamburg on November 1.
Only a short period of time after take-off the plane was struck by two lightning bolts at either end of the plane. The incident caught the attention of residents living in the area of the natural occurrence as an “exploding sound” accompanied the strike. Dashcam footage in the area captured the moment.
An Airbus representative issued a calming statement following the event, ensuring people that this was a routine event in aviation and “the aircraft continued with its journey to Hamburg as planned. In accordance with standard operating procedure, the aircraft will be inspected before its next flight”.
