Albanian prime minister strongly condemns Iranian drone attacks on Azerbaijan

05 March 2026 22:02

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has strongly condemned Iran’s recent drone attacks on Azerbaijan, describing them as a “serious act of aggression” against a neighbouring country.

In a post on the social media platform X, Rama criticised Iran for targeting civilian infrastructure in the Nakhchivan region, which resulted in injuries to civilians. He called the attacks “grave and unacceptable” and urged the international community to isolate Iran for its actions.

He said that the attack on Azerbaijani territory, targeting civilian infrastructure and causing injuries, represents another serious and unacceptable act of aggression by Iran against its neighbouring countries.

Edi Rama emphasised that Azerbaijan is a valuable friend and ally of Albania. He noted that since regaining its independence, Azerbaijan has earned significant respect internationally due to its development, prosperity, and policy of open cooperation.

The Prime Minister stressed that the people of Azerbaijan, like the citizens of other countries who have recently been targeted without cause, deserve only respect, security, and a life free from threats.

Rama also stated that the Iranian regime’s attempts to intimidate civilians and destabilise the region must be firmly condemned and should lead to even greater international isolation of that regime.

According to the Prime Minister, when civilian infrastructure in other countries becomes a target and sovereign borders are violated, the line between aggression and terrorism disappears.

He added that states committed to stability, international law, and peaceful coexistence must openly distance themselves from regimes exporting violence and treat them as terrorist states.

Edi Rama concluded by emphasising that Albania stands in solidarity with the strong leadership of Azerbaijan and its proud people.

"The path forward must be clear. Aggression must be isolated and aggressors must be unequivocally punished. Those who choose the path of violence must be confronted with the growing unity of those who choose peace," he said.
