Ambassador: Russia ready to play mediating role between Azerbaijan, Armenia
Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov has said that Russia is interested in peaceful and prosperous South Caucasus and is ready to help normalise relations between Baku and Yerevan.
Yevdokimov made these remarks at the fifth meeting of the Russian-Azerbaijani Expert Council in Baku dedicated to “Cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan within the regional projects and initiatives”, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.
The Russian diplomat also considers it important to resolve the issues related to the Caspian region.
“We are sure that the interference of external forces in regional affairs is unacceptable and all issues can be resolved by the regional countries,” he added.
Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan Hikmat Hajiyev, Chief of the Russian Presidential Directorate for Interregional Relations and Cultural Contacts with Foreign Countries Igor Maslov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elshad Iskandarov, Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijani Centre of Analysis of International Relations Farid Shafiyev, Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council Ivan Timofeev attended the event.
The sessions on such topics as “Priorities of Russian-Azerbaijani allied interaction”, “Current formats and aspects of regional cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan” and others will be also held.
