Ambassador to Netherlands reminds Dutch FM of Armenian hostilities

18 August 2023 14:42

The Lachin road remains, in fact, open for humanitarian actions of the International Red Cross.

As reported by Caliber.Az, this fact had to be repeated by the Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Rahman Mustafayev. He did so on his official X (former Twitter) page in response to Wopke Hoekstra's, the Dutch Foreign Minister’s comment following the UN Security Council meeting regarding the transportation routes in Karabakh.

Ambassador Mustafayev recalled, that Armenia rejected a proposal on parallel delivery of cargoes to Khankandi through the Lachin and Aghdam routes, because “it doesn’t seek peace but is willing to ignite tension with a view to continuing manipulation and misleading at an international level”.

He further touched upon responsibilities that Armenia took upon itself yet failed to fulfill yet, writing, that “Armenia doesn’t respect Article 4 of the Declaration from November 10, 2020, requiring 'the full withdrawal of Armenian Armed Forces' from the Karabakh region. There is still the illegal presence of some 10,000 Armenian military personnel in Karabakh”.

The Azerbaijani diplomat responded to the Dutch minister’s call to “re-open” the Lachin corridor and called both sides to resume dialogue.

Yet Mustafayev pointed to the fact, that “Armenia does not respect, for more than two years now, Article 9 of the Declaration, saying, that ‘Armenia guarantees the safety of transport links between Western regions of Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan region’. Since 1991, Nakhchivan with its 400,000 population, is in blockade and there is no land link”.

“More diplomatic pressure on Armenia, not carrots, is needed. […] I strongly believe, that as a victim of military aggression and 30 years long occupation (as confirmed by four resolutions of the UN Security Council of 1993), resulted in unprecedented destructions and mine-laying, Azerbaijan can count on a balanced position of The Hague, the capital of justice and international law”, Ambassador Mustafayev concluded.
