Anatolian Phoenix-2026: Azerbaijan joins combat rescue drill in Konya PHOTO / VIDEO
International search-and-rescue exercise Anatolian Phoenix-2026 is continuing in the Turkish city of Konya, with forces carrying out complex simulated combat rescue operations, the Defence Ministry of Azerbaijan said.
According to the ministry, participants were briefed ahead of the missions on safety procedures, operational phases, terrain conditions and the climatic characteristics of the exercise area.
Under the scenario, parachute and search-and-rescue units conducted coordinated operations to locate and recover a simulated downed pilot. Deployed by helicopter, specialist teams inserted into the area using fast-roping techniques, where they “neutralised” a mock terrorist group and detained its leader.
In the next phase, the units established full control over the area and safely evacuated the pilot. Once the task was completed, personnel were extracted by helicopter. Air assets provided cover and fire support throughout the operation, ensuring coordination and operational effectiveness.
Officials said the exercise demonstrated a high level of professionalism among personnel, alongside strong interoperability and coordination between units.
The international Anatolian Phoenix-2026 exercise in Türkiye is scheduled to continue until 17 April, the ministry added.
