Armed сlash on Azerbaijan-Iran border leaves guards, intruder injured PHOTO
In a tense encounter, an armed clash erupted on the Azerbaijan-Iran border, resulting in injuries to both Azerbaijani border guards and an intruder.
The incident unfolded on July 24 around 03:30 at the Goytepe Border Detachment area of State Border Service, where two individuals breached the border from Iran into Azerbaijan, the service told Caliber.Az.
The intruders, who ignored orders from border guards to halt, resisted and attempted to flee, leading to an exchange of fire. As a result, two Azerbaijani border guards sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment, while one of the intruders was also injured.
During the subsequent search of the area, authorities discovered a stash of narcotics weighing approximately 10.88 kg, a night vision device, a 12 mm rifle, as well as shell casings and ammunition. Iranian border guards have joined the investigation, and both Azerbaijani and Iranian officials are collaborating on ongoing operational and investigative measures.
