Armenia, Azerbaijan to link energy systems, Pashinyan confirms

21 January 2026 18:51

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the energy systems of Armenia and Azerbaijan will be interconnected, highlighting a key component of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project during a government session in parliament.

“Without a doubt, the energy systems of Armenia and Azerbaijan will be connected to each other, and both sides will mutually use the import and export capabilities under the same conditions,” Pashinyan stated, emphasizing the cooperative framework of the agreement, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

The Prime Minister outlined early benefits of the TRIPP initiative, noting tangible outcomes such as improved fuel supplies, reductions in gasoline prices, and the facilitation of grain imports through Azerbaijan.

The TRIPP project stems from a joint declaration signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States, aimed at advancing the peaceful resolution of the regional conflict. Under the “Trump Route” framework, Armenia will grant the United States exclusive long-term rights — up to 99 years — to develop the corridor, which Azerbaijan plans to use to establish a land connection with its Nakhchivan exclave. The US intends to sublease the land to a consortium responsible for managing and developing the associated infrastructure.
