Armenia considers enlisting women for military service

The Armenian Defence Ministry is considering the possibility of voluntary conscription of women for military service.

The Armenian Defence Ministry press secretary, Aram Torosyan, made the remarks in an interview with the Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.

"I can only confirm that we are discussing the issue of giving women an opportunity to volunteer for military service," Torosyan said.

He did not provide any other information about the upcoming changes. Now in Armenia there is a mandatory conscription for men aged 18-27 years for a period of 24 months.
